Notes
1. Flodoard seems to have written
the Annales contemporary to the events described; Michel
Sot, Un historien et son Église au Xe
siècle: Flodoard de Reims
(Paris: Fayard,
1993), 83-87.
2.
Flodoard began work on the Historia after
June 948, and interrupted work for church councils in
948 and 952; Sot, Un historien et son Église,
101-102.
3.
This chronicle is closely tied to Dudo's book; Arnoux
believes Dudo wrote the 528 as well.
4.
Halphen believes that the Annales of Renaud were
compiled in c. 1107, using a now-lost chronicle written
about 1075 for the years before then. If so, this mention
of William was copied in 1107 from one written in 1075.
